Lakkidi Viewpoint: The Gateway to Wayanad’s Scenic Beauty
Nestled in the scenic hills of the Western Ghats, Lakkidi Viewpoint is one of the most beautiful tourist spots in Wayanad, Kerala. Located at an altitude of about 700 meters above sea level, this viewpoint offers views of green hills, winding roads and mist-clad mountains across the Thamarassery Ghat Pass and serves as the gateway to Wayanad, offering an experience of unforgettable for nature lovers, photographers and adventure enthusiasts.
History and Significance of Lakkidi
Lakkidi has a rich history associated with the Thamarassery Ghat Pass. According to legend, a tribe called Karinthandan helped the British engineers to find a mountain road to connect Wayanad with the plains. Sadly, after he revealed the way, he was betrayed and killed. The Karinthandan monument, known as the Karinthandan Smarakom, is found near the Ghat Pass in honor of Wayanad’s contribution to the relationship.
Today, Lakkidi is a gateway to Wayanad and a testament to the historical and natural importance of the region.
