Brought to life at the Charge Of Kerala’s Kannur, the World-Class Arakkal DYNASTY Museum offers a theatre and unique sight of the rich history of Arakkal family – the only Muslim royal DYNASTY in Kerala. This magnificent Museum provides every curious visitor with a wonderful opportunity to penetrate into the personal lives, traditions, and legacies which many generations ago formed the royalty on the coasts of Malabar.
It is the Royal Durbar Hall of the Arakkal Palace where the museum is put up inside. The precious collection of valuable suits, original letters, priceless hands of archeology, and rarest exhibit the dates back of the family rule of Arakkal and its impact on history in the region are things displayed in this museum.

Historical Significance of the Arakkal Family

The 16th century water family has an impressive reputation in democratic organization that integrated almost all areas of northern Kerala, indeed, Cannanore (Kannur) and the Lakshadweep Islands also under its rule.
Known as Arakkal Raja (for men) or Arakkal Beevi (for women), leadership within the system was female. It is the most distinctive feature about their matriarchal system.
They saw the family as very significant on regional trade, ensuring cordial relations with local rulers, and the Portuguese, Dutch, and British colonial powers. With its emphasis on cultural harmony, economic prosperity, and progress, their achievements are seen as great memories of their reign.
