Historical Significance for Kalady

Kaladi, which means “footprint” in Malayalam, is locked in mythology and history. According to traditional accounts, young Shankar lived in this village with his widowed mother. Kaladi is said to have got its name when Shankara, struggling with his mother’s struggle to fetch water from a distant river, prayed to Lord Krishna from the banks of the Periyar river and brought him near their home.
