Ananthapura Lake Temple: A Tranquil Island of Devotion in Kasaragod
Carved out of the peaceful village, the Ananthapuram Lake Temple is a unique combination of natural splendor and spiritual significance. Despite many other equally beautiful temples in the nearby areas, this one stands as the sole representative of the other temples in the stateāit has a lake within the temple complex and is dedicated to Sri Ananthapadmanabha, the most respected reincarnation of Vishnu among the people of Kerala. The temple, situated on a rocky island in the middle of a beautiful and miraculously located lake, testifies to the rich heritage of Kerala architecture and culture.
Historical and Spiritual Significance
In the legends, the Ananthapura Lake Temple is said to be the initial residence of Lord Ananthapadmanabha, which developed into the super-famous Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram. According to the time practice, the heart and mind chakra of the temple of Ananthapura was regarded as an actual spiritual house of Vasudeva, where he used to turn it into a yoga nidra on a soft Anantha.
This temple is also laden with myths and local tales. A story goes that the divine sage Divakara Muni Vilwamangalam one day in his wandering saw a supernatural birth at the place. The newborn, who appeared, later revealed himself to be the Supreme Vishnu and disappeared into a nearby cave, which travails to the Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram.
