The Bharathapuzha River is the second longest river in Kerala, with a length of 209 km.Originating in the Anamalai Hills in Tamil Nadu, the river flows west through Palakkad, Thrissur and Malappuram districts, and finally it drains into the Arabian Sea near several Ponnani Rivers like It is fed by Kalpatipuzha, Gayatripuzha and Thuthapuzha, making it an important waterway for irrigation and livelihood in the district
The name of the river, Bharathapuzha, translates as “River of India”, reflecting the deep connection between Indian mythology and heritage. Locally, she is affectionately known as Neela, a name that evokes feelings of nostalgia and reverence among Keralites.
